Apologies for not blogging as often as I should..I am in need of a new laptop :-/
Any who...everyone is talking about the NYC Mosque situation as well as pastor Jones' desire to burn the Quran. (That's hard for me to even say.)
The issue is should a Mosque (Islamic community center) be built on 2 blocks away from the World Trade Center in NYC? Mosque leader Rauf tells CNN in retrospect he would have picked another location.
After all the drama surrounding this debate I think that statement by Rauf sums it up. There were no intents on insulting those victim to the 9/11 attacks BUT I do think that it would be respectful to relocate the mosque. As a New Yorker who was directly affected by 9/11, the terror and sorrow and fear that was in NY was unspeakable, there is no reason why those who suffered as a result of the attacks should feel discomfort again. I do not think that the mosque should forcefully be moved, I do however believe those in charge of its set up should reconsider the location. In an ideal world the location of the mosque would not matter but in our world it does... Religious tolerance is one topic that comes up, love and respect for all man kind is another. I doubt any religion would want to directly offend those who suffered in "connection" to their organization.
Another discussion is Pastor Terry Jones out of Florida who believes it is necessary to state a protest burning the Quran tomorrow in response to 9/11. This is pure ignorance and will do nothing but spark more religious tension as well as put our soldiers lives at stake. As a Pastor I believe it is your duty to be loving, respectful and Christ like. Blatantly disrespecting another religion is childish and ugly. As a Christian I believe Jesus speaks for himself, the truth is the truth and if another does not agree with Christianity that is their prerogative. It does not change the validity of it. The same goes for Islam. Pastor Jones burning the Quran will not change the events of 9/11 or the opinions of muslims towards their religion.
These are simply my opinions, I would love to hear yours. Feel free to comment!
